Yatterman

After about a year of teasers and tv spots, a full theatrical trailer for the Takashi Miike’s highly anticipated live adaption of the classic anime, Yatterman, has surfaced. Check it out on the main site.

Click on the middle button to see the trailer. I haven’t got a clue what’s being on said on the site or the trailer. Can’t wait to see how Miike handled this one. Looks campy as hell, but lots of fun.

This film rocks! This is Takashi Miike’s most commercial release to date and it also happens to be one of his finest. Great performances and classic Miike touches all around. I have trouble with most asian films trying to put out their renditions of “cool” characters, but this film’s turned me into a major fanboy. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself relating to one of the characters or crews and adopting their maneurysms (I personally am working on Genji). Super excited about the sequel on the way!

Crows: Episode Zero
Written by Hiroshi Takahashi (comic) and Shogo Muto (screenplay)
Directed by Takashi Miike
Country: Japan
Year: 2007
Genre: Action

Flux curates this, the latest in their series of free Tuesday night screenings at the Montalbon Theater. Takashi Miike’s “Sukiyaki Western Django” is a rare example of Japanese filmmakers taking a page straight from America. Fans of Quentin Tarantino’s violently bloody Grindhouse films will love this Japanese take on the western (it’s even got QT himself, looking remarkably less like a beached whale than usual). RSVP to the website or call the number for tickets.
