FSITO

http://www.fightsmackintheorphanage.org/

In 1973, feminist writer/child advocate Gloria Grey published her seminal best-seller We Are A Gentle Angry People: The Rise of Orphan Smack Addiction in the Latter Half of the Twentieth Century. Though it was often filled with inaccuracies, misconceptions, factual errors, and plagiarized portions of unpublished Jacqueline Suzanne novels, it managed to catch of eye of community leader, Marion Barry – the godfather of the anti-Smack movement of the early 70s.

Though unlikely partners, Gray and Barry joined forces to lay the groundwork of what was to become Fight Smack in the Orphanage (FSITO) by organizing the first citywide “Smack-down” in Los Angeles in 1974. Later that year, with help from several government grants and the proceeds of Ms. Gray’s lucrative mail order macramé business, they opened the first FSITO Rehabilitation Center on Crenshaw Boulevard in L.A.

Over the next thirty years, more than one-hundred FSITO Centers opened their doors in locations all across the United States and Guam. These centers are no longer just places that kids can get clean, but symbols of hope that inspire the entire community. Some also offer Pilates.

Sadly, the battle is not over. There are still thousands of Smack-addicted orphans on the streets looking for their next fix.

FSITO refuses to give up. We know that with your help and support we can fight Smack and save the orphans.

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla

The Tri-Island Area, CA – During the Golden Age of Piracy, men (and women, but mostly men) of ill repute harassed the shipping lanes of the European super powers, engaging in so many acts of piracy that it triggered a Golden Age (lasting 8 turns). Today, piracy is a distant memory (relative to your proximity to South-Eastern Africa), with the majority of pirates having been ground to dust over two hundred and fifty years ago (those who remain have found safe harbor on the internet, where they routinely violate copyright laws). But during the glorious Golden Age that produced such notable scoundrels as Henry Morgan, Charles L. Charles, and “Blackbeard” Edward Teach, rumor spread of Guerrilla Island, somewhere deep in the Caribbean, which held the greatest pirate treasure of all, though none knew for certain what that treasure was.

To this very day, the treasure’s nature and exact location remain a mystery, which is why on June 28, 2009 at American Legion Post #308 in Reseda, CA, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla invites one and all, near and far, to join us in an attempt to uncover The Secret of Guerrilla Island!

“Activision is working on a game called DJ Hero (think of it as Guitar Hero for house music). Here’s the first shot of the game’s new turntable controller.

It’s notable that all controls seem to be placed on the record, meaning that, just as Guitar Hero can’t teach you guitar, DJ Hero won’t teach you mixing (unless we missed that red, blue and green button standard on vinyl for all these years). Good to know that the musically inclined are keeping those pesky gamers in their place. Look for DJ Hero this fall.” – Mark Wilson

— The company’s groundbreaking DJ Hero expands Guitar Hero’s signature social gaming to all-new consumers with the addition of diverse music genres including hip-hop, R&B, Motown, electronica and dance. Introducing an all-new innovative turntable controller, DJ Hero transforms players into DJs who rule the club scene by creating original mixes of popular songs and music from the world’s most exciting artists and DJs.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Live

After more than 80 animated episodes of the Adult Swim hit Aqua Teen Hunger Force, creators Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis have developed the first-ever live-action episode. To mark the occasion, they turned to none-other-than Grammy-winning southern soulster and rapper T-Pain to portray the Aqua Teen’s only sane and rational roommate Frylock, whose animated form looks much like a floating box of French fries. Starring as the Aqua Teen’s self-appointed leader Master Shake will be actor Jon Benjamin. The lovable and remarkably stupid Meatwad will be live as well but bare a striking resemblance to an exercise ball, and first-time television actor Dave Long Jr. has been tapped to play the Aqua Teen’s obnoxious neighbor Carl after a lengthy nationwide search. The new season of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, which continues throughout May on Sunday nights, will conclude with this first-ever live-action episode on Sunday, May 31 at 11:45 p.m. (ET/PT).

Grammy-winning singer-song-writer-producer—and actor—T-Pain burst on the music scene in 2005 and has produced and written a plethora of chart-topping and platinum-selling singles. In addition to the Grammy, T-Pain has garnered “Songwriter of the Year” and “Producer of the Year” honors at the BMI Urban Awards and earned a BET Award. His self-produced third album, THR33 RINGZ, was released last November, debuting at #4 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart.

Jon Benjamin is a writer, producer, actor and prolific voice-over actor from Boston, Mass. In addition to writing for Late Night with Conan O’Brien and acting in such television series as Sex and the City and Human Giant, Benjamin has done numerous voice-overs for such animated hits as Family Guy, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Assy McGee and Home Movies.

For this first-ever live-action episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Adult Swim embarked on a nationwide search, sponsored by Burger King Corporation, for someone to play the character of Carl. The task was daunting: find someone who possesses similar traits to the animated Carl, a simple man who’s endearingly sweaty, hairy, lewd, fashion-challenged, horny, nasty and oftentimes annoying. After sifting through more than one hundred audition tapes, the real-life Carl was found: 23-year-old Dave Long Jr. from Edensburg, Pa.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force is created by Matt Maiellaro (12 oz. Mouse) and Dave Willis (Squidbillies) and follows the strange everyday lives of three human-sized food products living in New Jersey.

Adult Swim (AdultSwim.com), launched in 2001, is Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.’s network offering original and acquired animated and live-action series for young adults. Pro Wrestling Guerrilla

www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com

March 20 — When we first announced the participants for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla’s Ninety-Nine and One Hundred (taking place on Aprill 11 & 12 with tickets available right now on the Mini-Site) there was rampant speculation about what the matches would actually be taking place. There were some matches that seemed like lay-ups, sure things, or as close to a sure thing as you can get in professional wrestling. There were others that fell into the realm of the “dream match,” matches with such fantastic potential they could only take place in a ring made of clouds, with an angelic chorus to accompany the action. But there was one match that stood firmly in both categories. We are pleased to announce that the highly anticipated match will be a reality, when on Saturday, April 11 at Ninety-Nine, Matt and Nick Jackson, The Young Bucks, will defend the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team Championship against none other than Abdullah The Butcher and “The Taskmaster” Kevin Sullivan, The Dungeon of Doom.

…don’t be stupid, they’ll be putting the titles on the line against Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley, the Motor City Machine Guns!

The last time the fashion industry experienced a female liberation movement was during the “bra burning 60’s.” Bras, high heels, make-up and other items supporting the unattainable, standard of beauty, were lit aflame in a “freedom trash can” to symbolize opposition to sexual oppression.

Traditionally, the women’s wear industry has been flooded with hyper-feminine pieces with low necklines and bias cuts leaving females choice less. With little to no options, females were only recently given quality alternatives.

Since 2005, Hellz Bellz has provided fashion alternatives for the bold fashionista with edgy, tops, jackets, denim and accessories, influenced by all things subversive; from the gritty streets of New York to sexploitation flicks of the 1960’s and 1970’s. Founder Lanie Alabanza, continue to defy all the rules of conformity and any fashion entity that claims a woman’s style cannot breach strength, individuality and feminine flair simultaneously.

For everyone who has been into America’s Best Dance Crew, this crew has been a threat to lookout in the competetive hip hop dance world for a long minute. The Philippine Allstars was started in 2005 by 12 friends who came from different backgrounds, but wanted to collectively represent their country in the World Hip-Hop Championships held in the US. In 2006, Allstars put the Philippines on the map of Hip-hop dance in becoming the first Asian country to win back-to-back World Gold titles in the International Hip-hop Open d’Ítalia in Turin, Italy and in the World Hip-Hop Dance Championships in Los Angeles, California.
